Hi Barry,

The Goldberg family has a special place in our hearts, and we are sending you lots of love and best wishes for strength and healing as you fight this battle. We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers!

Barry,

When I met you at my first AVCA convention in 2003 in Dallas, I was a 24-year-old who wanted to get into coaching. I wandered into a Maccabiah coaches volleyball meeting and was stunned to see so many highly accomplished coaches so willing to take me under their wing and offer love and support.

Since then as we have crossed paths the past two decades you have always been such a mensch to me. Always looked out for me and always been so kind to me. You are such an incredible role model for how to treat people in this profession with such kindness and grace. I am better off for knowing you and I aspire to be the kind of coach you have been for so many lucky players.

I am thinking of you Barry. Keep fighting the good fight, and thank you for all you have done for me and for this incredible sport and cadre of coaches. Volleyball is in a better place thanks to you.

Much love always.

Samuel Shweisky

Barry, my thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of your family. Stay strong and keep fighting.

"If the events of 2022 have left you feeling like you’re in a long, dark alley, please take heart. Our God of impossibilities is still weaving His sovereign tapestry to accomplish His divine will. Whatever dark alley you’re enduring, Jesus is still Immanuel! He is still faithful to use our suffering to accomplish His bigger purposes."

Jeff Kosko

Hey Barry...sending you and the family huge hugs and warmest Aloha. I am positive that the characteristics I have appreciated the most about you over the many years we have known each other are exactly the ones that will pull you through this. Honestly, loyalty, creativity, determination, and I could go on. This chapter is about you soaking in all the well wishes and drawing energy when you need it from those around you who have all benefitted in profound ways from having you in their lives. I know I have! I'm all too familiar with this process, so I will just leave it as you and your family are some of the most amazing people I have ever known or will ever know in my life. You've got this, but if at any point in time you, Bonnie or any of your family need our energy and love, know that you have it tenfold! You got this!

I am truly sorry I hear of your latest health challenges. Please know you have a team of supporters behind lifting you up in prayer, hope, and ultimately healing. You can beat this!!

Barry,
So sorry to hear about your illness. Please know that I’m praying for you. Glad to know that you’re going to Johns Hopkins where you’ll be getting the best possible care. Keep hanging in. AU needs you.

Hi Barry, I'm Bonnie's friend in her CBS class. I want you to know that I'm praying for a miraculous cure (if that is God's will) but if not, then I'm praying for God's peace and comfort for you. Not just for you but also for your whole family. The following is from an ancient hymn and has helped me when I am suffering:
LORD, I am willing to receive what You give,
to lack what you withhold,
to relinquish what You take,
to suffer what You Inflict,
to be what You require!!

You’re the guy who always has an answer for anything opposing teams do to try and beat you. I know you’ll do the same with this! Thinking of you.

Hey Barry...
Words cannot convey my sadness.

Your professionalism, compassion, and spirit have been one of the bright spots in our sport for so long. I've been richer to be around you and your program.

Thoughts and prayers for you and your family. Know you have a zillion supporters out there!
