Thoughts and prayers to Barry’s family. He was an inspiration to all who met him. Had the pleasure of meeting Barry fist at the 2015 NCAA first round in Columbus, OH when I was coaching for Robert Morris, my first NCAA tournament as a coach. Barry recognized that I seemed a bit lost before the coaches meeting the night before the tournament and came up to me, congratulated me on making the tournament, and showed me where to go. We talked for several minutes and he told me that the feeling never got old and to really enjoy the experience. That always stuck with me as a young coach, and meant a lot coming from someone who had experienced so much success. Barry was a rare person and coach, and will be dearly missed by all those who had the pleasure of meeting him. God Bless and may Barry find rest and may the family find peace.

I never met Barry in-person, but American University was my work client and all of the AU staff knew Barry and would mention how wonderful of a human he was whenever I mentioned that I played volleyball. Our paths indirectly crossed in many ways, despite never directly... and yet, I felt like I knew the guy. He touched so many lives in the AU and volleyball community. I know he will be missed by so many.

I always enjoyed running into Barry on the recruiting trail. He was always a gentleman and a truly nice person. Few were better at recruiting tall kids. :o) He will be greatly missed. Blessings to the entire family.

I was Barry’s neighbor and childhood friend. He introduced the game of volleyball to me and my brother. I would pass and set for hours with him. I was his setter in 1986 at the Keystone State games. His passion carried on through me to my daughters who played collegiate volleyball. I will miss my friend. Prayers to the Goldberg family.

Tried to leave this note earlier, it only left my name.

I first met Barry in December 1966, shortly after I started dating his first cousin, Barbara, who later became my wife of nearly fifty years. Barry liked to tell the story (jokingly) that his first memory of me was when I broke his toy (he was not quite five). When Barry moved to Maryland, he briefly stayed with us and we helped him move into his first Maryland apartment in Bethesda. For many years, Barry was a fixture at all our holiday gatherings, and my kids grew up with many great memories of Barry. At Thanksgiving, 1989, he asked if he could bring a guest, that’s when we met Bonnie. For 30 plus years, we had many wonderful times together. Barry and Bonnie were there for us when Barbara became sick three years ago and for me when she passed away a year later. I’m just an in-law but Barry and Bonnie have been the best friends anyone can imagine. I’m going to miss him terribly.
With much love to my second family,
